Note: This brooch was sold as part of the Lady Nancy "Slim" Keith collection at Christie's on April 11, 2006. Keith was a well-known New York socialite and style icon of the 1950s and 1960s. The original "California girl," Keith was recognized as the inventor of modern American chic. Her circle included Truman Capote, Babe Paley, Cary Grant, and Ernest Hemingway. Keith's famous quip, "You know how to whistle, don't you? Just put your lips together and blow," was immortalized in the film To Have and Have Not.
