Portrait Miniature of New York Physician Dr. Thomas Cock, c. 1840, watercolor on ivory, 4 1/2 x 3 3/4 in., in a period gilt gesso frame. Condition: Very good. Note: According to a short biography affixed to the reverse, Dr. Thomas Cock (1782-1869) practiced medicine in New York City "and was tireless in his efforts to overcome the yellow fever epidemic in 1822, and the cholera epidemic in 1832" and "was recognized by the city for his efforts with a presentation of a service of silver" and "occupied various places of honor and importance in the profession". Under glass, not examined out of frame, good condition.
