Russian Icon of the Kazan Mother of God, c. 1896, elaborately painted on gold ground, and with applied silver-gilt and cloisonne enamel halos marked with 84 silver standard, maker's mark and kosnik for 1896, 12 x 14 in. thin surface crack down center of Madonna's face from right eyebrow down to chin, with some in-painting. small scattered spots of in-painting to cheek and nose. a few spots of gilt touch-ups using gold leaf. small spot of loss to center of upper edge. minor age wear.
