Early Victorian Boxed Set of Mother-of-pearl-Handled Flatware, mid-19th century, blades marked for Salt, mother-of-pearl with anthemion carving, comprising thirty-six table knives (lg. 10), thirty-six table forks (lg. 7 7/8), nine dessert forks (lg. 6 3/4), and seven dessert knives (lg. 8 1/8 in.), in fitted brass-mounted mahogany case. some light corrosion to metal, and some reddish-brown staining to pearl (lpossibly from interior rusting?) throughout. dinner knives: one needs handle reattached to blade. one place fork with repair to handle (likely broken, and repaired with a plain metal band); another with a large chip to pearl at join of handle to blade. two dessert knives with similar metal band repairs to end of handle near join to blade. case with empty spaces for other deseert forks and knives now gone. top section of lid to wood showing shrinkage (has receeded from brass mountings).
