Eleven Sterling and Silver Plate Matchsafes, late 19th to early 20th century, five American sterling: one with C-scrolled edges, one with husk swags to corners, Renaissance Revival case with dragons and dolphins to edges, an engraved monogram S, and one mounted with the Yale University seal; one unmarked cylindrical with line engraving; five silver plate: a bale form, a Chinese shell form, a matchbook cover souvenir of New York City enameled with the Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty, an advertising case from Ames' Matchless Boots, and one diagonally reeded topped by a small sterling bow pin, monograms, lg. 1 1/8 to 2 3/4 in., approx. 4 troy oz. plated: signficant loss to plating of NYC souvenir and Ames Boots case. Chinese example now down to copper (blue enameled to interior). bale with light wear to silvering. silver: some wear to surface decoration of Renaissance Revival case. scattered pinpoints and minor age-typical wear throughout.
