George Nakashima (1905-1990) "New" Chair American black walnut and hickory New Hope, Pennsylvania Spindle back with arms, marked Kinsey on base of seat, ht. 39, wd. 25 in. Note: George Nakashima was born in 1905 in Spokane, Washington. Trained as an architect at the University of Washington and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he first began furniture-making ventures in India, Japan, and Seattle. Through the sponsorship of Antonin Raymond, he was released from the internment camps in the Idaho desert and founded his workshop in Bucks County about 1945.
