Georg Jensen Sterling Sauce Boat, 1915-27, no. 686, ovoid, with short spout and curved and tapering ebony handle, ht. 5 3/8 in., approx. 11 troy oz. Provenance: Engraved to underside with owner's name, "Gordon Mendelssohn," and the name of his yacht, "Quartermore." This piece was part of a suite of Jensen tableware used on the vessel. Mendelssohn was a wealthy notable in Detroit, Michigan, and a patron of the arts. The Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre at the University of Michigan was built through a donation Mendelssohn's in honor of his mother. light edge nicks and interior surface scratching from use.
