Richard E. Baringer (American, 1921-1980) Lot of Two Works: Big Yellow Area and Untitled Yellow signed, dated, and titled "Baringer '62/ BIG YELLOW AREA" in pencil on the reverse, identified on a label from Bertha Schafer Gallery, New York, on the stretcher. Acrylic on canvas, sizes 66 x 66 in., unframed. Condition: Surface grime. N.B. Illinois-born Baringer studied as an undergraduate with Lazlo Moholy-Nagy at the Institute of Design, Chicago, and later with Walter Gropius at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. The year of the present work, he was an assistant professor of architecture at Columbia University, as well as a private practice residential architect in New York City.
