Condition: Paint losses, scattered abrasions, craquelure. Provenance: A New England estate. N.B. This head and shoulders likeness of Robert Raikes is based upon George Romney's three-quarter length portrait of Raikes in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery in London. Raikes was the founder of the Sunday School Movement in England.
