Large Cinnabar Circular Box and Cover, China, 19th century, the cover finely carved in relief with a panel enclosing scholars gathering in a serene landscape with trees, rocks, and bridges, reserved on three different geometric patterned ground each representing water, ground, and air, further encircled by cartouches of peony, magnolia, rose, and camellia braches alternating with stylized lotus scrolls to the sides, the box decorated en suite, dia. 10 1/4, ht. 5 in.
