Calligraphy, Dong Zuobin (1895-1963), oracle bone inscription in red ink, inscribed, signed and with four seals, dated 1943, dedicated to Mr. Zuhai, 38 x 5 3/4 in. N.B. Dong Zuobin, the pioneer scholar in oracle bone inscription, was the archaeologist who first found oracle bones at the Ruins of Yin (from Shang dynasty) in the Xiaodun village in Anyang, and organized the excavation of the site in the 1920s and the 30s. Dong was also among the first group of archaeologists who found the site of Longshan culture in Shandong province, China. Provenance: From the private collection of Shen Baozhen's fifth-generation granddaughter. Minor tear to the upper right corner which was professionally repaired during mounting, good condition otherwise
