Alvar Aalto Lounge Chair Birch and upholstery Finland, design date 1936, purchased in 1947 Deep taupe upholstered seat and back within a solid birch wood curvilinear framework, later re-upholstery, ht. 29, wd. 29, dp. 29 in. Alvar Aalto is one of the great designers of the 20th century. His work is part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art. The owners of this chair recognized good design. It was bought as a wedding present for each other in 1947.
