Pair of Louis XVI-style Marquetry Inlaid Convertible-top Occasional Tables, late 19th century, round, each with a removable top, one side marquetry inlaid with a similar scene of noble men and women on the grounds of an estate, the reverse parquetry inlaid as a game board, the whole top removing to surface set with blind embossed calf writing surface, each with feather and checkerbanded frieze set with two small drawers, and two pull-out candle slides, on square-section tapering legs ending in brass caps, ht. 30 1/2, dia. 26 in. Really a harlequin pair, rather than a true pair, as one has slightly thinner legs. The marquetry scenes to the tops also vary somewhat. Overall minor age-typical usage wear and finish darkening. Table with the thinner legs: writing surface with some rippling to the leather and a few chips to the veneer. The marquetry scene a bit brighter than the other table's top. One candle slide stuck. Missing two brass caps off legs; another cap off, but present. table with thicker legs: writing surface top possibly refinished. The rectangular inlay panels flanking the drawers lifting slightly. some rippling to the surface of the marquetry scene. Two brass caps missing from legs; one cap off, but present.
