South German Fruitwood Marquetry and Ivory-inlaid Secretaire a Abattant, late 19th century, rectangular top with ovolo-carved edge, over frieze drawer and fall-front inlaid with a scene of two cavaliers on a boar hunt, the interior fitted with drawers and pigeonholes with further marquetry inlay, over three drawers with further hunt scenes, the whole flanked by open columns decorated with strapwork scrolls, with further ovolo carving to base, on block feet, ht. 58 1/4, wd. 35, dp. 16 1/2 in. large horizontal shrinkage crack through center of fall front, visible also to interior at writing surface. Fallfront with smaller shrinkage crack at upper right corner. front legs lacking sections of veneer. Significant edge wear to front corners of base trim. Right side with losses to veneer at center and at upper edge. Left side with vertical crack running the full length, with associated veneer loss. scattered veneer losses, and usage wear.
