Whimsical French Figural Smoking Stand, late 19th century, formed as a shack with sloped roof, the structure with single window mounted with a metal figure of a bespectacled dog, with pull latch opening lid, a carved bone signed above the window reading "Parlex au Portier," mounted with a single gilt metal grapevine beside a broom and a bucket, the front of base mounted with a matchstriker, ht. 7 3/4, wd. 6 5/8, dp. 8 3/4 in. chip to right rear corner of base and resultant lifting of beaded metal trim. losses to back edge of lid along hinge. small shrinkage crack to base edge at left side. interior with losses to compartmenting. overall age typical light wear.
