Rembrandt van Rijn (Dutch, 1606-1669) Sheet with Two Studies: A Tree, and the Upper Part of a Head of the Artist Wearing a Velvet Cap, c. 1642 (Bartsch/Hollstein, 372 only state). Unsigned, collector's marks from Johann Heinrich Albers (Bremen, 1774-1855; Lugt 2714) and George Björklund (b. 1887; Lugt 1138c) on the reverse. Etching and drypoint on laid paper, plate size 3 1/8 x 2 3/8 in. (7.9 x 6.1 cm), matted, unframed. Condition: Margins approximately 1/16 inch, subtle toning/soiling, annotations to the reverse. Provenance: A Rhode Island estate. A fine impression, the sheet measures 3 1/4 x 2 13/16 inches, and is hinged at the upper corners.
