Georges Rouault (French, 1871-1958) Jean-François jamais ne chante alleluia... , 1923, from MISERERE, published 1948, edition of 425 plus proofs (Wofsy, 132). Signed and dated within the plate. Etching with aquatint and roulette on paper, plate size 23 1/4 x 16 3/4 in. (59.0 x 42.4 cm), framed. Condition: Staining (primarily along the right and lower edge of the plate mark), bloom to surface of image, unobtrusive rippling, not examined out of frame. Provenance: Through the family of Eleanor Kanegis Levin, co-owner of Kanegis Gallery in Boston from 1953 to 1961 and the Retina Gallery in Cambridge from 1968 to 1971.
