Charles Constantine Hoffbauer (American, 1875-1957) Lot of Two Mural Studies: Washington Takes Command at Cambridge and The Landing of British Troops at Long Wharf , c. 1942 Washington signed "C. Hoffbauer" l.l., Washington identified and British misidentified on labels affixed to the backing. Watercolor and graphite on paper, sight sizes to 9 3/4 x 7 in. (24.8 x 17.8 cm), framed. Condition: Subtle rippling, not examined out of frames. N.B. The present works are studies for two of eight murals depicting early New England history that were commissioned for the lobby of the New England Mutual Life Insurance Company building in Boston's Copley Square.
