Walt Disney Studios (American, 20th Century) Lot of Two Animation Cels: Snow White and Doc , 1937, and Mickey and Minnie Both titled in pencil on the mat l. l. and stamped "Original WDP" on the mat l.r.; Snow White with a label from Walt Disney Enterprises affixed to the reverse; Mickey dedicated "BEST WISHES TO DAVID WATSON/WALT DISNEY" in pencil on the mat l.r. Gouache on celluloid, Mickey with watercolor and graphite on paper background, Snow White with airbrushed background, sizes to 8 x 10 3/4 in. (20.3 x 27.3 cm), both unframed. Condition: Snow White with rippling to celluloid; Mickey missing Minnie celluloid, acid burn. Provenance: Gift from Walt Disney to David Watson, his personal pilot; by family descent to a private New England collection. Mickey and Minnie with loss of the entire figure on Minnie on the right and with two remnants of pigment attached to the glue residue in that area. MIckey partially detached from the background, with pigment from part of his ear and part of his cane attached to the background. Background created with watercolor and pencil, with toning and mat burn to the sheet. Sheet with glue residue to the reverse, staples l.r. and u.r., tack holes at center edge top and bottom, and held to window mat with masking tape at top and cellophane tape (now detached) along the other three sides. Snow White with rippling to outermost plastic sheet, backed with cardboard and mounted to window mat with paper tape around all four sides.
