Charles Courtney Curran (American, 1861-1942) A Moorish Garden. (Alhambra) Signed "CH...S C. CURRAN N.A." l.l., inscribed and titled "Record No./ 220-24/ C.C.C..." on the reverse. Oil on canvas mounted to Masonite, 30 x 25 in. (76.2 x 63.5 cm), framed. Condition: Flaking, lifting, losses. N.B. The work was executed in January 1926, and was with Robert C. Vose, Boston, Massachusetts in June 1926. We wish to thank Kaycee Benton for her assistance with cataloging the lot; the work will be included in her forthcoming catalogue raisonné on Curran. Paint losses throughout, but particularly in the upper left quadrant, upper right side, along the bottom edge, and lower right corner. Losses obscure part of the signature (the first name "Charles") and a possible date beneath the signature l.l. The largest single area of loss measures approximately 1-1/4 x 5/8 inch. Extreme dimensions of sections with clustered losses measure as follows: upper left corner 8 in. across and between 5 and 13 inches down from the top; lower right corner 7 in. high x 3 1/2 across. Much of the figures, garden, and fountain are undisturbed.
