Arthur Claude Strachan (British, 1865-1938) Encounter with an Angry Goose Signed "Claude Strachan" l. l. Watercolor on paper, sight size 20 3/4 x 14 in. (52.7 x 35.5 cm), framed. Condition: Tear u.r., toning, not examined out of frame. Sheet size 21 1/8 x 14 3/8 in. (53.6 x 36.5 cm). The reverse of the sheet has been abraided as if to remove layers of the backing. What appears to be a tear or a very deep crease in the upper right corner (measuring 2 1/2 inches) corresponds to a deep abrasion on the reverse. There are a few small areas in the u.l. and l.r. where the backing has been scraped away to the front layer, visible when the sheet is held up to a light source. There is also a press mark across the top on the paper, visible on the front of the composition and on the reverse.
