Jacob Maris (Dutch, 1837-1899) On the Maas, Holland Signed "J. Maris" l.r., identified on a cancelled presentation plaque. Oil on canvas, 22 3/8 x 28 5/8 in. (56.8 x 72.7 cm), framed. Condition: Retouch, patch reinforcements, craquelure. There is a 3 inch square patch to the c.r. containing a smaller area of retouch. There is additional retouch along much of the upper edge of the work plus scattered dots and dashes within the composition. The craquelure is visible but stable. The painting would benefit from cleaning.
