Laura Gilpin (American, 1891-1979) Beta-Ta-Kin Cliff Dwelling Navajo National Monument, 1930. Signed and dated "Laura Gilpin 1930" in pencil on the mount, identified on a label from the artist affixed to the backing, stamped "PROPERTY OF CENTER FOR ARTS ON INDIAN AMERICA WASHINGTON D.C." on the backing. Platinum print, sheet/image size 13 1/4 x 10 3/8 in. (33.7 x 26.4 cm), matted, unframed. Condition: Minute printing or similar flaws to cliffs u.l., minute rub to corner u.l., minor wear to the mount corners. Provenance: From the collection of Austin Lamont, by family descent. Photograph is mounted to mat board support measuring 20 x 16 inches, There is an oval area about 3/4 inch long of pale staining along the lower edge within the walls of the ruins. The previously mentioned "flaws" are a scratch to the tops of the cliffs, and asmall dot near the left edge also at the cliff tops. Both of these elements are visible in other printings of this image. On the back of the mount, in addition to the artist's label and the stamp mentioned earlier, there is also an inscription "1986-17/22/LG9/1310" l.l. corner and "26" u.r. corner, with a notation of the mat size along upper right edge. Mild soiling to reverse of mount, with press mark in u.r. corner that is visible also from the front. Subtle toning to the mount overall.
