Set of Eight Federal Carved Mahogany Shield-back Dining Chairs, Salem or Boston, c. 1800, together with a similar armchair, refinished, (imperfections), ht. 38 1/4, seat ht. 18 in. armchair pieced; The piecing on the armchair is rather extensive - the arms have broken out at the seat rail and the shieldback, and there are associated repairs in both areas. In addition all four legs on the armchair have been pieced between 2 and 4 inches each. One chair with a chip to some decoration and a crack in the crest. In addition, two side chairs have cracks at the base of the shield - one of those having an old pinned repair.
