Apulian Red-figured Pelike

Apulian Red-figured Pelike, 4th century B. C.E., with a band of laurel at neck, the obverse depicting a man and woman with various accoutrements at a well, reverse with a draped woman carrying a tray and flowering branch, over a band of meander with dotted crossed squares, palmette complexes below the handles, and details in added white and yellow, ht. 12 5/8 in. Note: A document from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, dated December 11, 1953, stating that a Miss Alexander examined the vase and identified it as Apulian and from the 4th century, accompanies the lot. 1/2 in. chip to rim. Areas of encrusted residue on base and beneath one handle. Minor scattered flaking to black ground and minor scattered loss to applied white and yellow details. No obvious repairs or restorations.
