George III Mahogany Veneered and Brass-mounted Mantel Clock, c. 1770, dial and backplate of movement marked for Benjamin Taylor, London, two-train, eight-day barrel movement with strike/silent, pull repeater, striking on two bells, mahogany veneered case topped by small urn-form finial, front panel of hood inlaid with Prince of Wales feathers, the silver dial with subsidiary date dial, floral-engraved spandrels, sides of hood mounted with foliate fretwork, with four further urn-form finials at corners of case, sides with lifting handles over rocaille and cherub mask sound dampeners, front glass door flanked by herm and foliate drop mounts, on acanthus scroll feet, ht. 26, wd. 13 1/4, dp. 9 in. Case with minor restorations. Overall in good condition throughout.
