Maria Sibylla Merian (German, 1647-1717) Four Framed Hand-colored Entomological Botanical Engravings, taken from the work Histoire des Insectes de l'Europe , likely Amsterdam, c. 1730, each plate depicting insects and caterpillars on a botanical specimen, matted, in ebonized frames gold-painted with vines and quatrefoil roundels, sight size approx. 6 1/4 x 4 7/8, plate size 5 7/8 x 4 1/2, frame size 14 3/4 x 12 5/8 in. Provenance: Lucy B. Campbell, 123 Kensington Church Street, London. Not examined out of frames. By sight all in good condition.
