Miniature Painting in Carved Ivory Frame, France, 19th century, the birth of Venus painted in blues, surrounded by an intricately relief-carved architectural frame complete with sphinx, caryatids, and friezes with carved scenes, the reverse with four lines of French verse and a carved scene of Artemis and a maid resting during a hunt, ht. 7 3/4 x 4 7/8 in. Birth of Venus scene with vertical break. Frame in very good condition with no evidence of any cracks, chips or restorations.
