Birge (Lovell Birge) Harrison (American, 1854-1929) An Artist at Her Easel Signed and dated "Birge Harrison 1882" l. l., with a partial label on the back of the frame. Oil on canvas, 27 x 32 1/2 in. (68.5 x 82.5 cm), in original frame. Condition: Lined, scattered retouch, craquelure, surface grime. Provenance: Purchased prior to 1908 by Frederick L. Cutting, then by family descent. The consignor states that this painting once had a label giving the title as The Country Studio. Varnish inconsistencies; dots and dashes of retouch to l.r. and u.l. quadrant; dashes of retouch to u.r. quadrant along frame liner to u.r. corner measuring approx. 7 x 1/8 in.; largest single area of retouch at center measuring approx. 1 x 1/2 in.; overall retouch less than 3%.
