Adolph Alexander Weinman (American, 1870-1952) Putting the Shot , c. 1901 Inscribed, dated, and signed "A.A. WEINMAN. FECIT" within the cast on the base. Bronze with dark brown patina, 18 1/2 x 5 1/2 x 10 1/2 in. (47.0 x 14.0 x 26.7 cm). Condition: Minor surface grime. Provenance: From the collection of cancer immunologist Dr. William Bradley Coley (1862–1936), New York and Cambridge, Massachusetts. Wax and grime to surface--the sculpture would benefit from a cleaning; the sculpture was cast in sections and the chased joints are visible on the figure's left thigh and both biceps.
