Provenance: Gift from Erik Nyholm to Adeline (nee Lubell) and Mark Naiman, Lincoln, Massachusetts, c. 1960; present owners by family descent. N.B. Adeline Lubell Naiman graduated from Radcliffe College in 1946 and was the youngest editor at Little, Brown and Company in the mid-to-late 1940s. A longtime friend of Norman Mailer's family, she featured as president of a fictional women's college in Mailer's film, Maidstone. (1) Mark Naiman began his career as a physicist at Harvard University, and later helped to develop the first ink-jet printer among other inventions for UNIVAC in the early 1960s. (2) The two were engaged in 1946 and married the following year. A copy of the monograph Asger Jorn by Guy Atkins, published by Methuen & Co. Ltd., London, 1964, accompanies the lot.
