Milton Clark Avery (American, 1885-1965) Autumn Tree , c. 1940 Signed "Milton Avery" in pencil l.r., identified on a label from DC Moore Gallery, New York, affixed to the backing. Gouache on black construction paper, sight size 17 1/4 x 23 in. (43.8 x 58.4 cm), framed. Condition: Subtle rippling, minor nicks, not examined out of frame. Provenance: Estate of Jonas Aarons, New York. Exhibitions: Milton Avery: Paintings and Works on Paper, January 4 to February 1, 2003, DC Moore Gallery; Milton Avery: Paintings and Works on Paper, February 8 to March 11, 2006, DC Moore Gallery. Within the window mat, there is a 2 1/2 in. soft crease to the l.l. Approximately eight nicks to the surface of the u.l. quadrant, with the largest measuring approx. 1/8 x 1/4 in. We are unable to examine the work out of its frame due to the fragile nature of the black construction paper support.
