Kennedy's ongoing cataloguing of Paul Henry's oeuvre. We wish to thank Dr. S.B. Kennedy for his kind assistance with cataloguing the lot. Beginning in the mid-1910s, Henry moved away from the influence of Jean-François Millet toward that of James A.M. Whistler, favoring pure landscape and atmosphere over depictions of the heroic figure. (1) Compositionally, the present landscape is characteristic of his "two-part division of the picture-plane dominated by the ponderously clouded sky..." (2) (1) S. B.
