Charles Webster Hawthorne (American, 1872-1930) Rose Signed "CW Hawthorne" l. l., inscribed "...The Rose" in pencil and identified on labels from the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Concord Annual Exhibition (see below) and William Macbeth Gallery, New York affixed to the reverse. Oil on panel, 25 x 30 in. (63.5 x 76.2 cm), framed. Condition: Retouch, minor skinning, panel screwed into liner on the reverse, minor losses, alligatoring, craquelure, surface grime, varnish inconsistencies. Provenance: Ex-collection Mrs. John Munro Longyear [Mary Hawley Beecher], A Midwestern library. Exhibitions: Concord Annual Exhibition, Second Year, May 1 to 9, 1916.
