Rolph Scarlett (American, 1889-1984) C , c. 1960 Signed "ROLPH SCARLETT." l.r., identified on a label from Jo Aarons Gallery, Rhinebeck, New York, affixed to the backing. Ink and gouache on paper, sight size 18 x 22 3/4 in., framed. Condition: Not examined out of frame. Provenance: Estate of Jonas Aarons, New York. Laid paper, sheet size 18-3/4 x 23-1/2 in. (47.5 x 60.0 cm), hinged to backing mat in three places along top edge. Inscribed "C [underscored]" on the reverse, upper right. Nicks and wear to edges of paper, Three small (3/8 in.) tears along right edge, the upper two mended on the reverse with archival tape, the lower one backed with a strip of 3/4 in. wide masking tape that extends 7-1/4 inches up from the l.r. corner. Another small tear at lower edge (measuring 1/4 in.) also backed with masking tape (2-1/4 inches long) on the reverse. Three small tears to upper edge (largest measruing 1-1/4inches), also mended with archival tape on the reverse. Handling creases along right side of sheet. Gentle toning.
