Edmund C. Coates (New York, 1816-1871) Celebration Around the Flagpole at Winnipesaukee Lake, Meredith, New Hampshire. Signed and dated "E.C. Coates, 1869" l.r., artist and scene identified on early 20th century typed label affixed to the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 24 x 36 in., in a period molded giltwood frame. Condition: Relined, stable craquelure, minor retouch to l.r. bottom edge, and l.r. Well-executed retouch only noticeable under black light to areas on extreme rt. and lower edge; the retouched spot near the l.r. edge is about 1 3/4 in. dia.
