Paint-decorated Turned Wood Compote with Stone Fruit, America, 19th century, the compote with subtly marbled mustard colored paint, containing an assortment of carved and painted stone fruit, compote ht. 8 3/8, dia. 9 3/4 in. The turned compote base is composed of four joined segments. There are about four cracks around one area of the joinery, which may be a weak point with some traces of glue visible in that area, but appears sturdy enough to support the stone fruit.
