Needlework Sampler, "Martha H. Morris AE 8 years," probably Maine, worked in silk threads on a linen ground, with alphabets over a flower basket and flowers surrounded by a geometric vine and sawtooth border, (toning, minor staining, fading, minor losses), 12 1/4 x 9 1/2 in. (sight), in a mahogany veneer frame. Note: A note on the back inscribed by a previous owner states that the sampler was purchased at an estate sale in 1959 at the Morris family homestead, and that from information gathered from the Morris family bible, Martha Morris was born August 4, 1823, in Lowell, Maine, and the sampler was stitched in 1831.
