Nathaniel Currier, publisher (American, 1813-1888) THE LIFE OF A FIREMAN: The Night Alarm. - "Start her lively boys.," 1854 (Conningham, 3518). Identified in inscriptions in the matrix, lithograph with hand-coloring on paper, sheet size 21 1/8 x 29 1/8 in., in a later molded giltwood frame. Condition: Margins of 1 5/8 in. or more, toning, tears, two into image u.l. and c.r., two margin tears, stains. Note: This lithograph ranked no. 34 in the original Best 50 . Tear u.l. is probably more a crase tahn a tear its is 4 1/2 lg. 2 1/2 in. into images appears to be a crease,; the tear at c.r. is about 2 1/2 in. lg. and extends into image about 5/8 in.; 3/4 in margin tear u.r.; 1 1/2 in. margin tear l.l. toning down center from previous wood backing, light moisture stains on right side.
