Needlework Sampler, "Nancy Chamberlain's Sampler/Worked in the 11th year of her age/Bristol 1822," possibly Maine, worked in silk threads on a linen ground, depicting a multicolored floral border and a basket of flowers surrounding rows of alphabets and a pious verse, (fading, toning), 19 x 16 in. , in a later mitered wood frame. Note: A genealogical record indicates a girl named Nancy Chamberlain was born July 24, 1811, in Bristol, Lincoln County, Maine. She was the child of William and Sarah Chamberlain. No holes or evidence of repairs, slight pigment bleeding from lettering into surrounding background fabric on lower register.
