Small Finely Woven Splint Buttocks Basket, attributed to the Shelton sisters, Forsyth County, North Carolina, late 19th/early 20th century, constructed with thin oak splints woven on a bentwood frame with upright handle, (minor breaks and small losses to the lashing on rim), ht. 5, wd. 5 1/2, lg. 6 in. Note: Mary and Eliza Shelton were basketmakers in Forsyth County, North Carolina, and both were listed in the 1910 census as a "basket maker at home." Four losses of vertical lashing on exterior rim, seven breaks to the vertical lashing to interior of rim, no breaks or losses on basket body.
