Mahogany Tall Clock by James Doull, Charlestown, Massachusetts, c. 1810, the glazed hood door over the 12-inch painted iron dial signed James Doull Charlestown with Roman numerals, moon's age in the arch and gilt gesso and painted spandrels, banded inlay on rectangular waist door and base, reeded free-standing and quarter columns, French feet and scalloped apron base, eight-day time and strike movement with red-painted tin cased weights, wooden pendulum rod and brass-faced bob, ht. 96 in. James Doull arrived in America in 1807 and began work as a journeyman for Aaron Willard. After establishing his own shop in Charlestown it is likely that cases for his clocks were made by Thomas Seymour and those with sweeping French feet have regularly been attributed to him.
