$23,700
Maple Tall Clock by Jesse Emory, Weare, New Hampshire, c. 1795, the wooden dial signed in the arch Jesse Emory Weare with carved and painted decoration, Roman numerals and calendar, scroll top hood and carved rosettes, tombstone-shaped waist door and molded base, thirty-hour wooden movement with count-wheel strike, recoil escapement, gravity clicks on the great wheels, wooden pendulum rod and two soapstone weights, ht. 86 1/2 in. Little is known of his training but both the History of Weare and The History of Henniker cite his skill and ingenuity in the manufacture of clocks and flax wheels. See Sotheby's Masterpieces from the Time Museum, New York, October 14 & 15, 2004, lot 1087 for another example of his work and the comprehensive biographical information in: Charles S. Parsons, New Hampshire Clocks and Clockmakers , pp. 129-133 and 310-311. Case in old surface, replacement hour and minute hands, period pendulum rod with replacement bob, original weights, no significant restoration or replacements on the movement.
