First Model "Brown Bess" Flintlock Rifle and Bayonet with Scabbard, Galton, England, first half 18th century, 46-inch round barrel marked "24" on the breech, steel and brass furniture including lockplate marked "GALTON" and with the crown symbol above "GR," turned brass ramrod pipes, escutcheon engraved "9/21," buttplate, carved walnut stock with raised carving around the tang, steel ramrod, sold together with a steel bayonet with 16 1/2 inch triangle-shaped blade and period leather scabbard with hide strap. Note: According to a modern string tag attached to this rifle, it was carried by a Private Parker of Buckland, Massachusetts, during the American Revolution. Steel components with light surface rust, age consistent imperfections on stock, bayonet by association.
