14kt Gold and Enamel Pendant, John Paul Miller, c. 1950s, the abstract form with a granulated octopus motif, hidden red and green enamel accents under the body, suspended from a woven black cord, completed by a clasp with granulated starfish motifs, lg. 2 1/2, 17 in., maker's mark, (losses). Note: John Paul Miller, one of the leading goldsmiths in the United States, only creates commissioned work. A pioneer of the use of granulation, Miller taught himself the technique through trial and error beginning in the 1940s. Overall good condition, some fraying to cord, minor bead loss to top of center pendant and caps on cord, discoloration to pendant and caps.
