Provenance: The Lillian S. Timken Collection of Precious Stone Jewelry, Parke-Bernet Galleries, New York, 1960, lot 8. Purchased by Frank J. Lauerman Jr., as a present for his wife, Monica. Mr. Lauerman served as the President of the Lauerman Bros. department stores based in Marinette, Wisconsin, at that time. At its peak, Lauerman Bros. had thirteen stores throughout Wisconsin, Michigan, and Iowa, competing with the likes of Sears and J.C. Penney prior to those businesses entering catalog sales. Lauerman Bros. even sponsored a semi-pro football team, the Lauerman Twins, who played football against the famed Green Bay Packers. The former flagship store in Marinette is a registered historic place. Frank Jr. also served on the board of Directors for the Stephenson National Bank for forty years and as its President for seven years before passing in 1977.
