Oak and Wrought Iron Footstool Made From Remains of the Ship Milwaukee Belle, vessel identified on plaque affixed to stool, made from an oak rib from the vessel, ht. 13 1/2, wd. 11, lg. 21 1/2 in. Note: The Milwaukee Belle was a two-masted schooner built in 1854 in Milwaukee by James M. Jones, and was owned by D. Newhall. The cargo vessel was de-masted on Lake Michigan on November 18, 1886 by a southwest gale north of the Beaver Isles in the straits of Mackinac off Brevort, and was blown nearly forty miles before she sank. Her rigging and gear were salvaged, and abandoned shortly after.
