James Abbott McNeill Whistler (American, 1834-1903) The Forge, 1861, final state of four (Kennedy, 68). Signed and dated within the plate. Etching and drypoint on laid paper, plate size 7 5/8 x 12 1/2 in. (19.3 x 31.6 cm), framed. Condition: Laid down, toning, deckled edges to three sides. N.B. This image was included in Whistler's Sixteen Etchings of the Scenes on the Thames , published in 1871. The sheet measures and is laid down to card board.8 7/8 x 13 5/8 in. All but the lower edge are deckled.
