Attributed to Albrecht Durer (German 1471-1528). Woodcut from the conservative German satirist Sebastian Brant's publication, "Ship of Fools", Chapter 52 illustrating commodification. The image accompanies Chapter 52 and its title that reads "Der ist ein Narr.../ Dass er ein alt Weib nimmt zur Eh'/ Einen guten Tag ER hat und keinen mehr" or "A fool is... someone that takes an old hag to wife; he has one good day and never any more." Woodcut depicting an image of a man at center reaching for a bag with coins from an older woman at right and holding a donkey's tail at left. Framed 12.25" x 10.5". Image size approximately 4.75" x 3.25".
