Large Southwest Polychrome Pottery Storage Jar, Zia, c. last quarter 19th century, repeat scrolling foliate and geometric designs, the neck band with repeating bird and flower pattern, patina of long use, (chips, wear), ht. 15, dia. 16 1/2 in. Provenance: Julius Gans, Southwest Arts and Crafts, 1936, includes two page description signed Julius Gans, "This is a very old 'tinajon' made in the pueblo of Zia and used for generations for storage of grains, etc. This tinajon has been in our possession for over fifteen years and is one of the finest museum specimens we have ever collected." Collected from Gans by Howard Whiting Beach (1882-1942), and descended in the family.
